The European Consumers’ Association warned the EU Commission about Tiktok’s misconduct. The video platform violates EU consumer rights with advertising aimed at children.
Advertising messages for children on the Tiktok video platform call the EU Commission to action. The Brussels authority started a formal dialogue with the provider on Friday. The background to this is a warning from the European consumer association BEUC about Tiktok’s violations of EU consumer rights.
Concerning are hidden marketing, child- oriented, aggressive advertising techniques and certain clauses in the Tiktok guidelines that could be viewed as misleading and confusing, the commission said. Tiktok now has a month to respond and to work with the Commission and the network of national consumer protection authorities.
