It’s time again for new emojis suggestions. This time there are among other things the lifebuoy, a disco ball and of course a number of new facial expressions. However, these are currently only drafts.
Just in time for the upcoming World Emoji Day on July 17th, Emojipedia has taken on the upcoming wave of new emojis. In addition to various new faces and expanded combinations of existing hand gestures with multiple skin colours, a number of new objects are also part of the list.
The new emojis are currently only drafts that will be decided on in September 2021. They will then be part of the emoji version 14.0. The final list will appear on September 14, 2021. In the past, however, many of the proposals from that time were also part of the approved version.

Emoji 14.0: These are the current Drafts
A look at the list of Emoji 14.0 published by Emojipedia reveals a total of 112 new graphics. As in the past, many of them are created by combining several skin colours.
New graphics for “fat man”, “fat person” and “person with a crown” expand the gender-fair and neutral emojis. According to Emojipedia, there is a gender-neutral version for almost all emojis, with the option of being able to choose a female or male variant if this is relevant.
There is also a small extension in the form of the “face with open eyes and hand over the mouth”. The aim is to solve a problem that arose from the traditional “face with hand over mouth”. While a laugh can be seen on many platforms, a serious facial expression can be seen in Apple’s variant. This could lead to confusion, as the following tweet demonstrates:
The decision as to which emojis make it into the final list of Emoji 14.0 will be made in September 2021. Only then can manufacturers such as Apple, Google or Samsung update their software. So it can take until 2022 before the new emojis are actually available on iOS or Android.
